Hi all, first post and all so be gentle!!!! :o
Anyhow, have had 4 very trouble free years with my 2.6 CDX and have been doing a lot of the servicing myself to save on VX dealer costs etc etc - Anyhow, this one occassion I let a local garage get hold of her to adjust the parking brake as it was totally ineffective - had to leave in gear just to make sure!!
The garage adjusted it quite nicely to where it's at full travel at 5 clicks but now the parking brake dashboard light is flickering on and off when it's not engaged >:( Am away from home for the next couple of weeks and can't get it back to him - can I fix this myself - with only a limited amount of tools with me??
Also - since the adjustment have noticed a smell of hot brake dust when I get out of the car after even a short journey - any ideas??
Cheers.
Excellent site btw :y

There is a full maintenance guide on the rear brakes which incldues the parking brake as it is critical that it is setup correctly (many garages simply adjust the hand brake cable or rear shoes).
I would check also the brake fluid level as this can cause the brake warning light to come on if the level is to low.

If the brake fluid is low then it might be worth flushing it with some brand new stuff... in the Maintenance section there is a very good guide if i say so myself ;D
Seriously though find out when it was last changed, should be every 2 years. I flushed it on mine, and made a huge difference.
