Hi Guys I recently bought me a p reg 2.5 V6 Omega, I love the car :) just hate the price of any jobs that need to be done. So I thought I would dust off my overalls & have a go myself, silly really as all I have is half a toolkit and a piece of cack book (Haynes manual) :-[ is it me or do you need to be a professor to understand it.
Anyway I am in a pickle, I am just praying one of you knowledgably dudes can tell me where I have gone wrong. ;)
I decided to have a go at cleaning the breather system out on my V6, now I wish I hadn’t.
I took off that big lump of aluminum that’s sat on top of the engine, which holds the black box with the eco tech marked on it. I took the two pieces apart and cleaned them both out, good job done, enough cack there to fill a Haynes manual. Anyway I fitted the new seals put all the pipes back on, reconnected all the electrical cables & ancillary parts plus fuel pipes, and looked at the engine with anticipation for a moment or two before inserting the key & turning it. Wey! Hey! Excellent, we have lift off; this is at the point where everything goes wrong. The engine no longer always only idles at 500rpm it will also idles at 1000rpm plus it also likes to rev between1500rpm & 2000rpm if I touch the throttle it will either react as one might expect or rev like a Looney or cut out after I take my foot off the gas. I thought I must have missed something so I took it all apart again & put it back together for a second time, it is still reacting the same way. WHATS HAVE I DONE, HELP!!!!! :'(
Regards Dave

Clean the Idle Control Valve (ICV) as well ;)
-
flippin eck that was quick, thanks will do ;)

Ok, it sounds like an air leak.
Firstly, any EM light (orange light on dash)?
I suspect either the plenum is not seated properly (check all 6 rubber O rings are in place) or something is not connected.
If cleaning the idle control valve does not work, then (in the morning when light) remove plenum and reseat, follwed by meticulous checking of all the connections.
-
1, ok I have just glansed at the manual and I am presuming that the (ICV) is what they are refering to as (idle speed adjuster valve) do you take this apart or is it just a liberal squirtig of wd40 from all directions.
2, No there is no unusual lights on within the dash.
3, I took extream care both times to make sure that everything went on exactly as it came off, and that all seals were not moved when reseating the plenum
4, I am not sure about the security of the (ICV) in the sde of the plenum, it seem quite lose,is that right.

No. It should be really tight. I would say that is your problem
-
ok icv is now totalo rigid, but probs still there. how do you clean the icv, do you have to take it apart?
-
Have a look at the maintenance guides, its all in there :y
Yours sounds a bit severe for it to be just a dirty ICV. Have you plugged all the electrics/hoses in properly?
-
It still sounds like a vaccum leak...
-
I must have eye trouble cause I cant see how to clean the ICV in the maintenance guide
:o
Just been out & checked that all hoses & electrics are on properly & they apear to be, will double check in the daylight.
-
To clean ICV, remove, spray with loads of carb clearner until nice a shiny inside, left to dry, couple of drops of nice thin machine oil, and refit....
-
thanks for that, I will do :y

Going back to the breather cleaning you don't mention cleaning the pipes and the outlets from the breather box behind the offside head. If you didn't do them it's an excuse to remove the plenum again and check the bellows are not split that connect the multiram to the throttle bodies.
-
Blimey you had me really thinking then, yes I did clean them out & one of them was a bit split on the end & thick with hard crud. I cut that bit off before reassembling the pipes. Thanks for the post anyway.

I had similar problem after cleaning my 2.2 ( no ICR valve) and it does now behave differently. Idles at 1000 - 1500 until speedo drops to 0 then idle drops to 700 rpm. It seems to be getting better as the weeks go on - maybe the ECU adapting to the ability to breath again?
-
did you remove the icv also? i removed my for a clean and found that the sealing rubber was a little bent up (although you sound as you have another air leak elsewhere).
when you clean the icv- spray the carb cleaner in the side hole while the end hole points down. also if you bung the end hole up with your little finger you may be able to feel and twist the barrel round to reveal the whole slider in the other side hole (cos usually ya cant clean it all in view)
hope this helps out- i had the same problem last week and now it sits at 575 rpm dead on! tone.

:)Thanks to everyone that has given input on my idling problem, it now seems to be sorted. After stripping it all apart again this morning and taking extra care when putting it all back together, cleaning everything again with even more care. including all electrics & pipes.
My not so little beauty is purring like never before. Thanks again you guys are ace!
