Title: Rocker gasket replacement
Post by: Kes on 03 January 2007, 16:29:58
Hi all . I have got to replace my rocker gaskets , I have seen top end sets on ebay but their appears to be a lot of gaskets I would'nt use in these sets .

Apart from the rocker gaskets what others would I need to replace with stripping off the plenum etc if I was to source individual gaskets rather than a set .

One more question when disconnecting the battery whats the secret to doing this without the alarm going off .

Also a happy new year to you  all .  :y

Hi

As you say 'gaskets' i assume you have a V6?

Its probably more difficult on a V6.......but i would think same principle as a 2.2.

I would buy the rocker cover gaskets from Vx......not that expensive......you will need O rings for the cover bolts and a tube of black gasket sealing compound.

I havent looked.....but have you checked out the maintenance section to see if theres a 'how to' for it.

As for battery.......turn ign on and then off........then youve got 15secs to disconnect the battery to stop the the siren going off  :y

You could also need the sealing rings on the plenum.  These are the seals between the plenum (which is basically the inlet manifold) and the trumpets (these are the tubes that carry the air to the inlet

Whilst you are doing all this, do not forget to clean the breathers at the same time or the new gaskets will soon go the same way.  And yes, use only genuine gaskets.  Pattern parts do not fit well and soon leak.

Since all this is coming off, I would suggest replacing the Heater Bypass Valve as well.............

Good man, VX parts are not that expensive, despite rumours, and the quality is exceptional compared to cheaper brand /  pattern parts !

False economy as they say !

TD mentioned about cleaning breathers out whilst doing top end work, as its NOT UNUSUAL ( as Tom Jones once sang) for these leaks to re appear if breathers etc not done !

You have to disconnect battery within 15s of switching off ignition.

So loosen battery terminal clamp. Switch on ign, then switch off. Quickly pull off connection and insulate.
