Title: My New Venture
Post by: Timbuk on 10 September 2007, 12:17:15
As a few of you know i was about to take on a small yard with a  sorry looking garage on it with the view to breaking and repairing a few Meegas  ::) Well after a bit of consideration i have decided against this idea :'( However there is a reason for this. When i left school i went straight into the motor trade for a few years and then on to the building trade, which i have done for many years now, but as you all know you do get tired of the same old thing so i have decided to hang my tile cutter up for good and go back to my roots.

I have just taken the  lease on a medium size workshop ( about 12 cars ) with a small car sales pitch on the front of it ( about 10 cars ) with a view to mainly selling and breaking meegas. So hopefully by October 1st we should be up and running  ;) Theres a lot to do yet, an office has got to be built at the front end, a new roller shutter has to be fitted along with the installation of a 2 post ramp, not to mention the sales pitch needs a a good overhaul.

I would just like to add that it is mainly because of this site that my spanners are active again and I forgot how much i enjoy working on motors, so if it all goes T*ts up i can blame you lot  ;D

Before you ask, yes we can have a cambelt party, but not just yet  :y

One thing i could do with a bit of help with is that this new venture needs a name, so any ideas would be appreciated. One mention of my avatar and you will be shot  :D

Good luck with it!

'Doug's meega's'  has a certain ring to it, sounds a bit dodgy though.

Due to the age of meega's now, maybe best to not have them in the name, but as a subheading :

Doug's Motors
        Vauxhall Omega Specialist

Maybe worth investing in a tech2 as well?

Great idea - I wish you the best of luck.
re a name, good old wikipedia includes the following as part of the definition "Omega is often used to denote the last, the end, or the,  ultimate limit of a set, "in contrast to Alpha, the first letter of the Greek Alphabet. In the New Testament book of Revelation, God is declared to be the "alpha and omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last"
"

Soooo, with my limited creativity gene, how about "Ultimate cars" or some other play on ultimate?

Good luck

Pat

Great news Doug, how exicting for you.

In terms of the name, my advice would be to go for something descriptive so that the name sells itself.

e.g High Street Garage, Telford Motor Repairs, Wrekin Car Sales and Repair etc. You can always use a logo or a 'sub' title when the business is established. In the mean time you want people to know where you are and what you do.

The very best of luck to you. Look forward to coming to the party.  :y

goodluck with the new line of bussines, wish you all the best :y :y

I too think it would be best not to put Omegas to far in the foreground after all, you want to make a living out of it, and people should know that you are capeable of fixing all types of vehicles.

I wish you the best in your new business venture.

Less of this please "so if it all goes T*ts up i can blame you lot" not before you've started.

As for a name: "Telford Vehicle Repair"   ;D ;D ::)

or "TVR" for short

Every best wish for your new venture :y

My own view on a name is to avoid tying yourself down, either to repairs or even to Omegas - remember you'll have a few P/Xs to get moved as well and, in time, you may want to branch out into other models.

I thought about something that would be general to all cars and came up with:

V5 Vehicle Engineering & Sales

V5, because every car has one and "Engineering" because that's what you do. There are shed loads of "garages" and "car repairers" around. You want to show that you are a professional, not just any old grease monkey.

Also, being alphanumeric, V5 will give Yellow Pages a headache!  ;D ;D ;)

...and you can have fun doing a "V5" logo.

Probably a rubbish suggestion, but whatever you call it, I hope the business goes well for you.  :y

Cheers
Nick

:)Got a few funny names in mind but they'd not help in the real world. Might help to involve other vxs to expand your market while still pushing the personal touch to all vx owners, hence building up trust with people who do'nt want to go to the "stealers"
Would you offer tyre fitting, minor accident repairs/spraying? As regards parts would you supply & fit? I think a website for spares would extend your market from just passing trade & would help get you established. Would it be ok to say "endorsed by OOF?"
Regarding names i'd keep it simple ie Telford Vx Ctr. Your friendly local etc....
All the best & i'll watch this post.
            Cheers Guy.

P.S Blow up some suitable pics from the meets, frame them & hang in the customers waiting area near the coffee machine!!!!!!!!!!!!! [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]
