the car has 2 engine warning lights
1, an engine block
2 a car that has a spanner in its sun roof.
Can someone please give a definitive answer to the meaning of each.
Vaxhall book says if it comes on momentarily then goes off this is unimportant - HOW LONG IS MOMENTARILY? 2 sec 10 secs or longer
In my case the spanner light comes on for about 30 secs then goes off at any time when I'm driving put usually about 5 mins after Ive started. but not always
thanks

The 'engine block' is the emissions warning light.
The 'Spanner' is the immobiliser light.
Your car needs reading with a Tech II to see if there are any fault codes stored.
Unfortunately, only Vx dealers have a Tech II (apart from TheBoy on here) and as he lives in Northamptonshire, a little far away from you.
The dealers are expensive, some good independants do have code readers that are capable of reading Tech II codes, I would ask around.
Until you know what fault codes are stored, I'm afraid we can't help much, other than to say, the 'Spanner' light should go out as soon as you start the car.
One thing you could try, is resetting the key fob, with the ignition switched on, press and hold two of the buttons at the same time for about 10 to 15 secs.
Hope this helps.

thans AA for your reply
You said it was immobilser warning . Could it be related to the alarm as I have a problem with the alarm going off and use the lock drivers door internally then close back door method to stop it going off.
I have taken it Vxall for Tech2 at £80+(but couldn't give me a printout of errors stored )who told me that it was the alarm sender and would cost £170 plus to supply and fit
saving for this now (+ a cambelt change in 1K)

to clarify, the spanner one if flashing is immobiliser. if on solid, its engine management
-
The spanner light is also the engine management light (EML) and could be coming on for any reason to do with any sensor.....altho in your case it does sound as it maybe an alarm fault.
As AA's says try to find a local (non vx) garage thats willing to read the codes for you.....post them up here and im sure someone will be able to advise what the cause is.....and save you being robbed by a vx stealer! :y

TB beat me to it.... must type faster ;D

Thanks guys looks like I'll have to hunt a garage with Tech2 facilities in merseyside, NWales or South Lancs as don't fancy going to VXall again
Anyone in these areas Know of a garage with Tech2 (£30-40 for a read would still leave me nearly £50 for fuel to find the garage before it comes close to Vxall charges !!!!!!!!!)
;D ;D ;DThinks £25 petrol @£5(nearly) gallon = 5 gallons x 25mpg = 125 miles Any garage within 125miles of merseyside and I'd still be ahead -
::) ::) ::)Crikes 125 miles that nearly half the country!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-/ :-/ :-/

bigall - This siren problem, did you have a sound like 3 beeps randomly when you got out of the car?
Like turn off the engine, then beep beep beep, but only sometimes? If so its the backup alarm battery and its an easy home fix :y
