Title: Steering Wheel Removal (Facelift)
Post by: edwardmickey on 06 February 2007, 10:22:17
Gents,

Is there a link here that shows how to remove a steering wheel from a facelift model?  I need to remove the airbag and radio controls too.

Want to install an Irmsher steering wheel.

I recall needing a two legged puller on a Cavalier I owned many moons ago but couldn't get such a tool from anywhere.  In the end, a mechanic from Vauxhall in Abingdon used brute force but I cannot remember how he did it.

Thanks

firstly - turn off the ignition, disconnect the battery and wait a few minutes before starting - you don't want the airbag going off !!

from memory, there are two torx bolts in the sides of the wheel which hold the airbag in place - remove those and you can take the airbag out, disconnect the plug and store it face up.

Steering wheels unplug from a connector and can be removed easily, likewise the horn push buttons if needed.

There's a puller on fleabay here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DRAPER-GM-STEERING-WHEEL-PULLER-VAUXHALL-OPEL-low-P-P_W0QQitemZ220078659583QQihZ012QQcategoryZ30917QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem), cost is just over £15 ...
