Title: Removing gearbox selector switch
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 08 February 2007, 17:15:44
Any advice on where this is located, and how it is removed? Also size, how heavy/awkward is it, in postage terms. I need to get one off for STE.

Cheers

Speak of the devil and he shall apear  ;D

It's on the passenger side of the box, held on by 2 screws/bolts.  If the gearbox is off the car it should be a doddle.  If not, you'll need to undo the 2 bolts with a socket (10mm, I think) slide it off the selector, bolt thingy that goes into the gearbox.  You might have to unhook the gear linkage first I think.  And disconect the electrical connector block at the top (this bit is a real bugger to do).

If it's on the car and you have to jack it up, please be careful. The though of people laying under a car rested on stands makes me cringe!!!   I always feel nervous when I'm under one myself.

If you have time and a small torx bit, the switch is held together with approx 6 screws.  Might be worth a look inside to see what condition it's in.  It's quite delecate inside though, so be gentle.

Hope this helps.
