Hi all
Changed cam cover gasket on my 20 16v omega last wednesday using all genuine vx parts- changed breather pipes x3 and had to have a brand new rocker cover (£116)!!!!and im really pissed off coz i can still smell oil in my air vents and i spent a hole day cleaning the engine from old oil and silicone and the rear breather with the filter box.
I checked the gasket yesterday and its not leaking anywhere ran the car to normal temp and its fine, so what could be the problem now?
Cheers

Is there any oil on the exhaust manifold, as this can take a while to burn off once the leak's stopped.

You may have not gotten rid of all of the old oil yet... have you cleaned the plug wells etc? or you may have another oil leak...

Hi chaps
I thouroughly cleaned the plug wells, but didnt check my manifold, good thinking batman!! ill do that today. if there is oil on the manifold how do i go about cleaning it? what would you use?

This happened on my Cavalier (same engine as yours). After the oil had burnt off the manifold branches and the top of the cylinder head all was well.

Just noted that you needed a new rocker cover! Out of interest, why was that?
-
Even if you have cured the oil leak, it can take a few days to burn off any oil left behind. Cleaning helps get most off, but will always be bits you can't get to or miss...

Hi x25xe
Had to have a new cam cover coz the old one had a chunk missing at the back of it I didnt know this till I took it off to do the gasket which was the main problem.
When I bought the car 3 years ago it needed the same job doing but i had a garage to do it and i think they broke it, I hav'nt any proof but the feedback I got from friends & family the whole outfit are a bunch of cowboys...yes they are still trading!!
Thanks matey
