Post by: omegalyn on 16 February 2007, 10:56:34
Hi There.
Can anyone tell me what this is?  :-? on the rear right hand side of cam cover on my 2.0 ecotec there is a thick pipe (breather pipe I think) that gose into  a plastic black box. Is it some kind of filter, can it be cleaned out, dos it come apart and where dose the pipe go. It gose straight down. I have cleaned out the front left breather pipe along with ICV and throtle body, just dont know what the back one is.
Many thanks.

Welcome to the forum :y

Yes that's the cam cover breather pipe which goes to the sump.

Have a look at the Maintenance guide for cleaning the breathers on a 2.2, it's very similar.

You'll need a new gasket, same part number as the 2.2.

The plastic box is a flame trap whcih was a mod to teh 2.016V breather system to help combat the idle valve cloging....it was not fitted to the 2.2....I suspect because it is drive by wire and hence no idle valve.

Of course...forgot about that.

Yes, if you have one, just take it off and clean it thoroughly with Carb Cleaner.
