Right, I've just jacked the Omega up and have been checking for play to try and find out what's causing my crap steering.
I couldn't see any play in any of the suspension or steering components. However, I have noticed that there's a very loud creaking and groaning noise coming from the top of the drivers side strut when turning the steering wheel. I also noticed that the bottom of the strut looks quite damp. Any idea? Would this cause problems with the steering?

I'm also concerned about this. It looks like a crack by the chassis leg. Should this be like this?

I've also noticed that it's using oil again. I tried to remove one of the ht leads but there was a gurgling noise as soon as I moved it, so I'm guessing the cam cover gaskets have gone again >:(
I'm seriously thinking about getting rid of this money pit of a car now.

That front shock is buggered......
Did you use genuine cam cover gaskets?

I thought it might be. Would that cause the problems with my steering though?
Yep, I did the cam cover gaskets by the book. Genuine Vauxhall gaskets, black sealant and I cleaned all the breathers out.

don't know about the chassis leg but new shocks are not difficult. About £100 parts (ish) and a couple of hours work. Not difficult stuff either....
Worst thing is that you mess up the camber by changing the shocks so you may want to get it reset or use a spirit level type guage (Sealey GA45) to get is roughly right which I did on mine and so far I've not got bad tyre wear
