Title: Brakes
Post by: ClarCE on 28 February 2007, 13:34:44
Hi,

Sorry if this has been gone over 1000's of times before - I'm going to sort the brakes out on the Omega and apparently there are two different types of pads: Lucas or ATE, any ideas which one I need or is it not important when changing them?  2.5 V6 1998/S Mini Facelift..

cheers in advance as always,

chris.

Front: lucas  compatible with 296mm discs not the smaller ones (only used on earlier 2.0).  The ones with a spring in the middle (you'll know what I mean if you see them!)

Rember to get a couple of wear indicators as well - the old ones just will not come out in one piece!

disc and pad kit from the stealer with a TC is probably as cheap as aftermaket stuff

You could get the pads from Vaux... think they are reasonably priced.

You changing the discs and pads or just pads? - If you buy the discs you get a set of pads with them, its around £70+ vat on TC for disc and pad set.

When changing the pads, put a little copper slip grease on the edges where it touches the calliper bracket. Also on the side of the pad where the calliper touches the pad.

Might be worth flushing the brake fluid too, only £4 for 500ml from vaux, get it from there i paid more from my local place than it is at Vaux retail!!

Remember brake fluid is like paint stripper so be careful, use this guide i made as a reference:

I should be picking the new bolt today, fingers crossed it is longer and can grab some threads that are hopefully left in the block  :-/
