Title: power loss
Post by: meaney on 01 March 2007, 21:54:37
when i start my car from cold and the auto choke is on ive got bags of power and great throttle response, but recently as soon as the choke disengages the power drops very significantly and the throttle response goes with it, i have to go up a very steep hill on my way to work every morning and i have to use the sport button to get up the hill, can anyone enlighten me as to what is causing this, it feels like fuel starvation, multi ram maybe ?   :-[

Most things I can think of would bring on EML.  Presumably this isn't on. Does it come on with ignition?

no warning lights come on, only on ignition, self test then go off again. if i hit sport its fine,although ive noticed my kickdown aint working

Sport makes no difference to engine, its purely a g/box setting.  So that implies an autobox issue.  As a first port of call, renew autobox fluid and filter.

i had the gearbox fluid changed just before xmas,cleaned out the filter instead of replacing. on a cold start the car goes great but as soon as the choke goes off i seem to loose a lot of power

Sounds familiar  ::)

In that case, I suspect something more fundamental with g/box, going on assumption that Sport mode is fine, std mode is not, and no warning lights...

If its still flat in Sports, then fuel filter, air filter, fpr are all things I would check...

Is the lack of power purely lack of power, or a misfire?

any ideas on what i should do, bearing in mind that my local dealer reckons they dont work on auto boxes, in fact they say they dont have a lot of experience with the elite  ::)

Does it feel like its losing power simply because its in the wrong gear?

Please confirm the engine management light behaviour......on with ignition and remains on until engine running, goes off 2 seconds-ish after startup ?
