Well did fluid change today and when i removed the intermediate sump I found some orange bits of plastic in the sump. Further investigation found the rest of what is left of an orange ring with 3 lugs on it and the letter B, well I retrieved the bits and it approx 6cm in diameter, can anyone identify it.

I know nothing about autoboxes, but I imagine thats supposed to be attached somewhere. That would explain its 'odd' behaviour....
-
Cheers TB I think I need to strip autobox to fix this little problem.

your in trouble dude!!!! thats a thrust washer which is supposed to be in the gearbox not the sump!!!! when they break the box can carry on for a while but the outcome is always a new box or a rebuild!! sorry mate!!

Dave (LB66 might have one)

Just checked TIS and it is a thrust washer that sits next to the oil pump. May just fit a secondhand box as this might end up being a cheaper and quicker fix

CRAP!
Found this in my gearbox sump today as well!
I sort of dismissed it cause it was so flimsy I reasoned it couldn't do much worthwhile in a gearbox!
How essential are these - the talk of replacement gearboxes looks ominous :(
-
Thrust washers are there to take up play in the box allowing it to run the correct clearances without play to maintain the correct fluid pressure necessary for the correct operation of the autobox, whenit falls out the pressure drops and the gearbox cannot operate correctly!! hence the swift demise when they breakup and fallout :-X rebuil or replace asap!!

What are the symptoms? I am having gearbox issues but I hope mine is just a fluid level thing.
I went in to the pit last week to check the level and the plug is sheared!! ffs!
What are the best ways of getting off a plug like that, I doubt it will be easy.

I've read on VxON that you've sorted this now, how'd you do it - was it a mission or relatively easy?
-
Cornishtaz - I would REALLY like to know how it was sorted.......... ;)
My box operates perfectly - as smooth as babys bum..........at the minute.........!
