:y Hi all, any ideas as to why the windscreen wipers on my Omega "overshoot" about 1.5 inches at the bottom of the widscreen? after overshooting they come back to the proper resting position when switched off! The wipers make a clunking sound when they overshoot the windscreen when hitting the plastic vent tray thing below the windscreescreen. The wipers almost make contact with the bonnet! :(
Is this a common fault that could be solved with a new wiper motor or is it a simple repair?
Any help appreciated. Marcus

sounds like the linkage assembly isn't on quite right, they should come to rest at the bottom of the sweep - ie, not go any lower. You will need to:
- undo the nut, remove the wiper from its' spline and reposition so it's 1.5" above its' current position
- repeat for the other side
- undo the nut on the wiper motor, lift off the linkage there, rotate so it's horizontal, then refit the nut
this should then do the trick ...

Well, if two Omegas is anything to go by, then it's a common fault. My ex-police estate has the exact same fault. I've been so busy lately that I haven't had time to check it out, but I can tell you it's not normal.
On mine, someone had obviously disassembled part of it, because they had swapped the arms left with right (just to keep me on my toes I guess) >:(

sounds like the linkage assembly isn't on quite right, they should come to rest at the bottom of the sweep - ie, not go any lower. You will need to:
- undo the nut, remove the wiper from its' spline and reposition so it's 1.5" above its' current position

this should then do the trick ...
Won't this just cause the spline inside the arms to strip when the arms go down at start?

A little concerned, has it only just started to happen or has it always done it? I'm concerned that there maybe a coupling going /gone faulty, wouldn't like this to fail at high speed in heavy rain!

Maybe the previous owner had a new windscreen fitted.....windscreen places always remove the wiper arms for access.....and put them back on incorrectly.
Tho i am suprised they got them mixed up....as the drivers side blade is quite a bit longer then the passenger side one assuming its got the correct length of blades on it.
Note if correct vx parts fitted......the drivers side blade has an air spoiler on it.....passenger side doesnt

Don't think he means over the edge of the A' pillar, think he means off the bottom of the screen into the scuttle!!

Its no the wiper positions that a at fault....its the drive and park stops that are wrong...
Thats a motor off job to stick any chance of fixing...

I was replying to the part i quoted......ie wiper arms were swapped over ::)

Sounds to me as though the wiper mechanism has slipped on its drive shaft which would park the wipers in the wrong position. Someone has then attempted to correct this my removing the arms and then putting them in the correct position on the screen.
If you remove the wiper mechanism and find the output shaft from the motor there is a short plate bolted to it. This should sit within 2 V's stamped onto the wiper linkage when the wiper motor has come to its natural stop position.

three bolts hold the wiper motor & linkage assembly in place ... two are easily accessible once the wipers and scuttle are removed. The third is effectively behind the motor, so you need to use an extension to reach it ...
