Title: Power Steering Mod
Post by: omegalyn on 14 March 2007, 13:14:05
Hi there,

Can anyone tel me if it posible to make the power steering lighter. I have got a paralyzed right arm and finding my Omega 2.0 16v a bit heavy to drive with my left.  Has the V6 got a more powerful pump that can be put on? but I am sure it won't be that easy! . I find it very camber sensative have changed the wishbones and idle control arm which has made it not pull to the left as much, check tyre pressure every week as this can make a difference, but I find it heavy to steer at low revs, e.g. parking.

Any advice.

Thank you

I know it's no help for your Omega, but I used to have a Ford Scorpio. It had the lightest steering of any car that I have ever driven.

The V6 servotronic setup can be adjusted via Tech2 to adjust the assist level....but not the 2.0....not sure if it can be altered though.....

If its just heavy at lows revs, it may just be a tired pump?

Thank All,

The servotronic setup sounds a good idea, I wonder how light it can go?. Might be a good excuse to upgrade to a V6,  ;).  Yes it could be the pump, how can I test it, Sound expensive to replace.  What dos a Tech2 look like, is it what the Vx garage plugs into the dash and can I buy one off the shelf .

Thanks again

Omegalyn.

Go for V6... great upgrade! ;)

Servotronic has 3 settings (adjustable on TechII) as I recall.

Not sure on replacing the pump on the 2.0, but it is easy on the V6.

Tech II is indeed the piece of kit the Vx garage plugs into your wallet!

You can buy one.... but be warned it is VERY (ie thousands of pounds!) expensive.  :o

Does the steering lighten up again if you blip the throttle? If so, pump sounds tired...

No the power steering stays the same no matter what revs, I have noticed that the front of the car moves from side to side when going from lock to lock, is this normal or have I not put somthing back on the right way like the steering idler?

Thanks

Thats the tires forcing the whole car to move at standstill - don't think its very good for it mind..
