I have seen on ebay quite a few Omega,s that have had a severe wireing short in the ecu harness burniing out a large portion of the wireing loom, now I have some pictures of what causes it and actually found the same fault on 2 others!!!! I have some concerns that this is actually a poor design by vauxhall and would urge anyone with an omega to check this area!!! now then i have the pics of the fault but have no way of hosting them so i can upload them to the forum, can email them to anyone who can and you can all check your cars immediately!!! this only seems to affect the earlier cars but it could still be there on the later ones to!!!
so who wants the pics to host them??

I get that the fix is to stop it rubbing. Are you also suggesting some kind of in-line fuse on the live wire that you mentioned in the 2nd photo?
-
Mini facelifts have a positive distribution system, so only starter and alternator are unfused....
To see if you have the +ve distribution system, check for an extra fusebox on top of battery....

Big thank to the boy!!!! As you can see guys the harness actually rests on the brake line and caffs through the live wires!!! this is on the green one which we caught in time, the gold one has completely burnt out its loom from this fault, hence the wanted ad, and i will be checking me other one asap!!!, we repaired the insulation where the wire had caffed through and then gently bent the brake ipe further away from the harness, then wrapped some plastic tubing around the harness to make sure it cannot rub again,
If you look between your power steering resevooir and your ecu box down at teh bottom of the multi connector wires you can see where they sit on top of the brake pie, if there is no gap then pull the connector out of its clip on the ecu box and lift it up twist it round and check the wireing!!! we missed it first time as it had turned when we twisted it but when released the chaffed wire was obvious!!!

A very big thank you for all that information, will hopefully stop future 'burn ups' or potential. :y

I'm assuming an inline fuse is recommended as mine does not have the box on top of the battery, shall be checking the other trouble spot asap.

For those that don't know, if you have a extra fuse box on top of battery, as shown in piccy below, you have the positive distribution system...
