Title: Odd running from cold
Post by: Chopsdad on 06 April 2007, 18:44:28
Car fires up fine, idle is smooth and no hesitation at junctions.  But when cold the first mile or two is downhill and when I ease of the gas it seems to run as if its running out of fuel.  Not quite a hiccup, but just plain odd.  Something else odd too 26.5 MPG ave over 75 miles of urban traffic - car hasn't been over 40 for a week. (usually 22/23)

I couldn't decide if it was the suspension at first, but it defo seems fuel related.  The tank has £50 of V power in and when the initial 2/3 mins is up it runs sweet.  If I knock it into neutral it's ok too.

So what's up?

Butterfly sticking?

I guess a drop more 3in1 wouldn't harm  ;)

No, coolant sensor working as normal. Also had new thermostat last year too. :y

Higher fuel consumpion and the fault only apparent when cold. Certainly sounds temp sensor related. You say it runs odd ,could it be running too rich or too lean when cold. Too lean ie no "choke"would point to temp. sensor U/S but wouldn't explain the higher fuel consumpion , too rich could still be sensor giving too high a resistance cold thus overfueling.
Maybe someone can give the values for the sensor cold and hot which would allow you to chack.

Have you had it checked? Remember the ECU sensor is different to the dash sensor...

Thanks guys, just to clarify:

Don - fuel consumption is better than normal so you may be right.

Tunnie - new fuel filter fitted 3m ago (and i'll ignore cam sensor comment for now)

TB - No, no codes read lately and no free access to Tech2 at mo.

I was thinking Lambda sensor not getting warm quickly enough perhaps?
