Hi,
Is there an easy way to check what condition the timing belt is in? Inspection hatch etc? Or do I need to strip it?
Cheers,
Iain

Its not really the belt you have to worry about, its the tensioners, any doubts at all get them changed ;)

The only check is to see if you have a garage bill showing that both the belt and tensioner have been replaced... and sadly even then it is not 100% guaranteed that they have indeed been changed.
The tensioner has been known to die a sudden death (taking the engine with it and effectively the whole car if it is a cheap one...). If you got a new motor, it is best to get it done asap anyway regardless of garage bills etc.

no way to check really, any doubts and have it done.
Unless you have documented proof that the belt AND tensions (the kit) been done.
Butter up a local expert as it can be done for a lot less than stealers....
