Title: Estate rear spoiler.
Post by: Olympia5776 on 05 April 2007, 22:41:44
Need a bit of help here. :-/
I am fitting a pre face lift rear estate spoiler to my facelift  this weekend. It's the earlier Irmscher narrow item that doesn't wrap around the sides but follows the contours of the tailgate instead. It has the LED light integral if that makes it easier to identify.
Anyway.. before I drill the two holes to fit it I wondered if anyone out ther could tell me if the top of the spoiler sits flush with the swage line on the tail gate or does it sit slightly higher. I ask this because I feel that the washer nozzle may interfere with the face to face fit between the tailgate and the underside of the spoiler which would mean that the holes drilled would be slightly out .This I'm trying to avoid. :'(
I hope I have been able to describe my question clearly but if not just ask.
Cheers
Don

Sorry Don, I have a saloon but hopefully an estate owner will be along in a minute.

In the meantime this may (or may not) be of help.

That's the very one 'cept it hasn't got the LED brake light . I've scanned the 'net and autotrader for weeks now trying to find a photo from above the roof line but with no success. If it interferes with the washer nozzle I'll just have to elongate the mounting holes but I would rather avoid that if poss.
Thanks for your help Chopsdad. :y

The only thing i can add.....is if you have a roof aerial make sure the spoiler doesnt hit the aerial when the tailgate is open  :y

Its a bit close.....on mine when the tailgate is open and the rear wiper is on.....the wiper keeps hitting the aerial as it sweeps back and forth!

You could always just turn it off  :-X

You're right TD .I got one from a Vectra B estate much steeper angle .Got it from good old E bay for £10 after being quoted 94 euro (£70 )  :o from GM for the earlier PFL elite item and that was base only!

Cheers Don
PS did you find that penny ?  [smiley=wink.gif]

But really just pointing how close door is to aerial when open and wouldnt want Don to go fit the spoiler only to find out it hits the aerial everytime he opened the tailgate

Thanks Pete.
I PM'd you with some photos but these give me the best idea as to datums etc. My spoiler is slightly different but yours is close enough to help.
Many thanks

Hello Richard
You could help me with one or two photos.
From 12 " above looking back from the roof onto the top edge of the spoiler and the side looking down across the spoiler again about 12 " above. This will confirm how higher the spoiler edge is above the tailgate swage line.It must sit above 'cause there is what looks like a drain hole in the leading adge of the spoiler.
Sounds like I'm being a pain in the ass over this but I just want to get the positioning of the holes right first time.
Done my back in yesterday changing the antenna so it won't be fitted today  >:(

Thanks very much
Don
