Hi folks,
on my new miggy the sunroof is a bit stiff, I think through lack of use ... sounds like the motor is working harder than the one on my old miggy. I've been able to slide the roof all the way back and spray grease into the runner, which appears to have resolved the issue for the sliding action. However, the tilt action is still a bit laboured, sometimes you have to hold the button in to make it close all the way. Which part(s) need to be lubricated for the tilt action?
cheers :y

Donnow... I greased the rails on both sides, and the small joints at the front of the ramp. Mine was closing only up to the ramp then getting stuck, and greasing solved the problem. But I didn't have problems with the tilt (yet).

I had the same problem with mine turns out that the motor which drives the roof had got a rusty spindel and it was making the whole thing go south it is a can do job but its not one I would like to repeat in a hurry the motor is located behind the platic cowl in the roof but its a sod of a job but it did sort mine out hope its not the same on yours :'( as I ended up changing the whole damm thing roof glass runners all in one go got a new one out of a breakers and swapped the cartrige which was fun with a capital F and a diffrent spelling

Hi Guys
What type of grease do you use? Mines a bit stiff to.
Also am I the only one with blisters under the black paint on the frame?
I have seen it on a couple of other Omega sunroof surrounds, is there a solution to this? :y

No! :( It must be the weather up these parts. ::)

Black paint on mine is flaking as well, bubbles everywhere, seems to be a common complaint.

If I may interject, spray grease is great for this job, it comes with a straw so it can be fired in very accurately, work it back and forth, tilt n' down several times... Jobs a good 'un......
If its megga stiff, soak it in WD or other overnight, then loads o' grease... :y

yep - I used spray-on white lithium grease. Designed for metal-to-metal applications too. Has done the trick for slide, I just need to work out where to spray it for tilt & hopefully that will fix it :)

I used standard multi-purpose grease and applied it by hand... :(
Seems to work fine though :)

...I thought you would say 'what's a sunroof?'...

Has anyone repaired the chipped paint on the sunroof frame?
Can you take it out completly and spray it? :-/

I'd imagine it may be less hassel and relatively easy to do it in situ, masking tape in abundance of course, as said on another thread recently, Hammerite smooth / matt or silk if the do it, best thing for rust, they say!!

well I've managed to grease the slide part of the mechanism ... you need to slide the roof back most of the way, there are 4 screws which secure a plastic trim to the roof itself. Pull this forwards and slightly down, then out. Close the roof and you will now be able to see the sliding part of the mechanism. I've then greased that and it seems a bit better .... time will tell.
Apparently to properly remove the sunroof it's a 2 man job, you need to remove the headlining first ... ::)

hmmm ... that was short lived!! .... but it looks like now another problem fixed ... hopefully :-/
I removed the motor & gearbox assembly (2 screws and a 8mm hex bolt). Unscrewed the controller (3 torx screws) and then the gearbox cover (1 more torx screw). Inside the grease had congealed. I removed the motor, the gear that drives the sunroof was very stiff - no wonder the controller thought the roof was jammed!
Cleaned up the inside and re-lubricated pretty much all the gears etc. with white lithium grease - sounds sooooo much better. Refitted to sunroof, which now slides back & tilts without jamming ... :)
The only "gotcha" I found was that on re-assembly you need to close the roof (using a screwdriver if necessary), then reconnect the motor assembly and slide/close/tilt/close it first. THEN refit it to the sunroof - otherwise I found that what it decided was the closed position was in fact half-open on tilt ... so far it looks like job's a good 'un :y
