Now I've got the grease off my hands from the HBV change, (and changed my pants from the close call with the radiator tap) - here's a question thats has bothered me from day one of owning this car , nearly seven years ago. On occasions when I turn off the ignition I get 4 'beeps', which I now believe come from the horn sited underneath the scuttle on the drivers side. It usually happens when I have turned off the ignition and removed the key in one swift movement. It certainly never happens all the time, quite the opposite. I'm sure its some part of the system telling me off.
Any ideas
Thanks Pat

It usually means the battery in the power sounder alarm is fubared.....vx dealer will try to sell you complete new replacement.....but it can be taken apart and replacement batteries fitted :y
-
The dreaded 4 beeps Pat. It means that the batteries in your power sounder have had it. We've had this question a few times on the forum, I'll see if i can find the appropriate thread and post back

yup backup alarm module is on its last legs, its under the scuttle on the drivers side.
Remove and replace battery, or a much easier option is just unplug it! ;)

I have had the same beeps since I've had my 2.0 gls, but I thought it had something to do with the Sony sound system. what dose this battery thing look like, and what is it for!!!

It sounds like an intermitent fault and if it's been happening every now and again for seven years, it sounds more like a loose or semi-not-happy connection.
Surely if it was the batteries giving up it would have died years ago!
It can be removed you know! ;)

Some Sony car stereos do beep when you turn the ign off.....its a warning to remove the front panel off the stereo.....so dont get it confused with this.
If the power sounder goes off....this is a warning that the car battery has been disconected...and therefore disabling the main car alarm
You can tell if its the Sony stereo beeping.....coz the beeps come from the front speakers :y

Thanks TD, yes my beeps do come from the front speekers, so its a sony thing for me.

Thanks.
That would annoy me.
Yet another reason, as if I needed more, to avoid Sony junk.

Nah, takes too much time/effort to set up - advantage of Sammy/Percy is that all aggression is instantly lost in a moment. If I had to think about getting out a grinder, and plugging in etc etc, the moment would have passed. Actually, that my be a good thing..... ::)

I guess it's horses for courses. Sometimes instant gratification is required. Sometimes a calculated and thorough dismemberment over the course of several minutes is the only solution. >:(
