Title: How do you dismantle an EGR valve?
Post by: The Barge Captain on 13 April 2007, 14:42:42
How does it come apart?  Looks as though you need to take the top off of it (plug end) in order to get at the screws that hold the solenoid part together.  Just need to strip for cleaning purposes.

Well if you have a little patience, you should find one appearing on your doorstep by tomorrow morning avoiding the need to dismantle. ;)

Went by DHL yesterday...

On a V6, you cant.....and I have tried including hacksawing a section of the metal body away!

What you can do is fill the bottom section with paint stripper or a similar good de-carbonising product and leave for a while and flush through......agitate it with a small disposable brush if you have one.

BTW If the three bolts shear (eg suspect caused by a Vx mechanic leaning on it..), is there any remedy or is it a replacement job?

Cheers

Yes got it mate.  Owner reports surging gone, but not driven it myself.  The old one's plunger moved freely, just curious about what else is inside it.  Must be some kind of feedback circuit judging by the number of pins on the plug.

Yay! :)

There will be a feedback circuit as it will be directly related to amount the valve is open.... I think!

Saw the top off the old one and have a look.

There is a feedback mechanism..a pot I guess...because one of the fault codes is 'EGR valve incorrect signal' in addition to the usual low voltage (shorted) and high voltage (open circuit)

The EGR incorrect signal was the error code i got.  When i removed the valve i waw expecting the plunger to be sticky (I think that might have been your idea, along with advice on cleaning it) but it moved freely, so i was wondering what else could go wrong with it.
