Hi all,
I would like to seize this opportunity to thank you all for this wonderful forum.
I bought an Opel Omega 2 weeks ago. It's 3,2 2002 model with 117 000 kms on the clock. But after 3 days of buying it, I made an acceident by hitting a pavement from the front right side of the vehicle which caused some damages in the body.
After the acceident and after reparing the body damages, a problem appeared in Traction Control (TC). The TC starts and prevents the accelerator from speeding up or increasing engine RPM. This problem rise after starting the engine for 10 - 40 minutes while the vehicle is stopped.
The mechanic claims that this problem can only be repaired by replacing the ECU with a new one.
What do you think? Plz help me?

ABS sensor or cable damaged?
-
Check the ABS sensors - 2 at front, near wheels, 2 at rear each side of diff. Maybe the sensors got damaged or adjusted in accident.
-
As above... ABS sensor or it's connection. When the mechanic says ECU, presumably he means the ABS/TC control unit - it would be very odd for it to fail as result of the accident as it is buried in the engine bay.

A couple of questions
1) What fault lights are lit on the dash when the problem occurs?
2) Do all the warning lights come on when the ignition is first turned on and then go off again or are any missing?
3) What errors have been read and from what ECU....?
4) What was replaced follwing the impact?
5) Was any welding carried out on the car to repair the damage and were the appropriate precautions followed?
To everybody else......remember this is a drive by wire throttle so if the motor asembly is playing up you get no throttle opening
-
Thanks all for you replies.
I will try to answer some of your questions Marks:
1) Only the TC light is lit. But after starting up the engine, sometimes Airbag light is lit too (The accident didn't cause any airbag to open). Before the accident Check engine light was always lit.
2) Yes, all of the lits come out, then they all turn off. But after a while TC turns on while the engine is started and the car is parked.
3) I can't answer this question.
4) Car front axle, Wheel shock absorber, Steering Wheel Axle, and chassis pulling.
5) I really don't know.
Marks, what do you mean by "this is a drive by wire throttle so if the motor asembly is playing up you get no throttle opening"??

Does the ABS light come on with ignition?
-
When the ignition is first turned on all the lights come on, then when the engine starts none of the lights is turned on.

I think he's saying that as its 'drive by wire' you don't have a throttle cable in the traditional sense. In place of a cable you have some kind of motor / servo that controls the throttle opening and closing and its controlled electronically rather than mechanically..
So, if you're motor / servo is knackered then the throttle won't be opening or closing properly..
Anyway, i'm sure Mark will clarify for you, gl with your problem.. :)

Thanks all for your help.
But do anybody else have any other suggestion?

If you have access to a tech2, that should be able to say what the ecu thinks is wrong.
-
Can you measure the battery voltage with the engine running (and idealy revving at 3000rpm to!)
-
Thanks Marks but I am not able to mesure the voltage.
Is ECU the part placed just behind the battery at the left side of the engine? If not, what is the name of that part?

Its the electrical bit connected to where all the brake pipes go. Not sure if on same side in other countries as it is in UK....

What is the difference between PCM and ECU? Where the PCM is located exactly? from where can I buy it (used or new)? how much it's price?
