Hi,
Just treated myself to this OBD2/CAN Scanner. (£65 on ebay)
It works a treat on SWMBO's MGTF but I can't it to read anything from the Meega. I read somewhere that the diagnostic port is sometimes pinned-out differently on the Omega. Is this the case? If so, can somebody tell me what the pin-out is or should be?
Cheers
Dave

I'm guessing your Omega is a non DBW unit, and is, therefore, not OBDII compliant.... :(
-
Additionally, not sure if your scanner is CAN only (there are 5 different protocols for OBDII), and no Omega is CAN (though some later ones have elements of CAN in some systems)
-
ODBII support is as follows...
OBD II compliant (including the VPW, PWM, ISO, KWP 2000 and CAN protocols)
Reads and clears generic and manufacturer specific Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
trouble codes display on the LCD, needn't the code book.
Scanning live data
Reading Freeze Frame Data
Testing I/M Reading Status
Reading vehicle info
Rescanning Data
VEHICLE COVERAGE:
GM '96 - Current Year (OBD-II)
Ford '96 - Current Year (OBD-II)
Chrysler '96 - Current Year (OBD-II)
Toyota '96 - Current Year (OBD-II)
Honda '96 - Current Year (OBD-II)
NISSAN '96 - Current Year (OBD-II)
All other Asian and European '96 - Current Year (OBD-II)
Scanner seems to recognise the protocols but doesn't show any codes.... Maybe my car doesn't have any recorded? Which is good news.
On MG it shows fault code and also displays live data such as revs, temp, Oxygen levels, fuel mix etc.. also resets codes and engine management light.
I also have one of the Opel scanners which links into my PC and displays codes in half english half Hungarian. If I get time I might compare pin-outs.
Cheers.

No, your Omega is not OBDII compliant. It will not work. Ever. Only the 2.2, 2.6 and 3.2 (and some diesels) are OBDII compliant.
The bit GM from 96 is for US cars only.
Sorry.

No worries. Main reason for purchase was for the wifes MG which had the EMI light on. Sorted. :y
