Hi all,
When I bought my car I remember the dealer saying: ".......of course, being top of the range it's fitted with the rain pack, auto wipers and self dipping mirror etc etc......"
Well, the mirror dips ok but I can't find anything in the manual (or elsewhere) that explains the auto or rain sensitive wipers. Do I have them or not? ( early 2002 2.6 auto elite) The wipers don't turn themselves on - ever. The only clue perhaps is the lack of a variable speed control for the intermittent position. My guess is that the wipers have to be in the intermittent position and then the speed would be adjusted automatically. If this is correct then it aint working as they never change speed.
Can anybody confirm or explain how it should work?
If faulty any ideas where?

I didn't think they were ever fitted to Meegas :-?

2002 Elite you should have it... do you have the Owners Manual? See below...

I find the adjustable wipers with EIGHT! settings fine....
Never felt a need for any more! ;D
I can make it wipe as often as I like.... with Auto ones as you say they are removed. I could find that annoying!

Thanks for the feedback guys.
OK, looks like I should have the rain sensitive setup, it just isn't working. Does anybody know where the various components are sited and what to look for?
At present, when auto is selected the wipers are intermittent but rain has no apparent effect and the wipers work at a fixed delay. Is there a fuse associated with this part of the system?

Has the windscreen been replaced? IIRC there sould be a clear bit somewhere near the rear view mirror that the sensor looks through. If the wrong window fitted then the sensor will either not be there of looking in the dark.

I can't really tell if the screen has been changed or not, It was 2yrs old when I got it.
I'll have a look tomorrow to see if the sensor is visible.
-
firstly - look where the mirror is on the windscreen, from the outside. If a rain sensor is fitted you will see a square ring (if you see what I mean), this is the rain sensor - the plastic housing around the rear view fixing extends down the windscreen by about 4 inches ... the sensor is fitted here.
If you do have variable intermittent wipers, you set the switch to the intermittent position - and leave it there - the rain sensor then automatically switches on slow and fast wipe as it deems necessary.
If they always work at a fixed interval, irrespective of the amount of rain, then you may not have the rain sensor after all ... my estate has it (52-reg)

Nope i dont have them.....but it may of had them in the past....my omega had its windscreen changed before i owned it....so maybe the wrong screen fitted.
It doesnt have a variable switch either.
Does yours AA? have either?

You carnt really tell......I only know coz i had a new screen a while ago and the fitter remarked that it wasnt the original screen.....apparently it came out too easily!

Checked my screen this afternoon. The part of the screen over the mirror support is darkened and can't see a sensor there, but I notice the front (forward facing) of the mirror housing has a little eye which may be the sensor. If so, it is looking out of clear glass.
Can anybody explain how the sensor detects rain? (If I understood it perhaps I could explain it to my sensor!) :)

That's the ambiant light sensor for your auto-dimming rear view mirror.

OK ... well I *do* have them working on my estate ... so here's some pics of what you're looking for:

(this is the housing behind the mirror)

(this is the front of the windscreen showing the "square ring" of the sensor ...
... if you don't have these then you don't have the rain sensor fitted ... it sits inside the housing behind the mirror and looks like this:
