the temp guage has not moved since i got the car could this b a wire of some were or some thing else shame the computer does not give a digi read out of the temp

Would the car have had the plenum removed at some point in the past?
(Plenum is large silver slab thing on the top of the engine)
Not uncommon for the temp sensor connector to become dislodged.
It is just a single wire with a spade end conector that sits on top of the coolant bridge.
Absolute doddle to sort. :)

When you say it has not moved I take it you mean from the bottom position?
-
Could also be a knackered thermostat. But as the wire is easier, check that first!

Fans have their own temp switches, and engine ECU has it's own sensor....

I've seen intermittent temp gauge before. Turned out to be contacts behind dash. press on dash around rev counter, and firmly press. Dash my 'click' in place...
