Title: Sill getting the burning oil smell

I changed my rocker gaskets quite a few weeks ago as they were totally shot but i'm still getting a burning oil smell inside the car.  Nowhere near as bad as it was before they were changed but it's definately still there.

It's only really noticeable when the car is stopped at traffic lights etc or when it's started from hot and pulling away and i still get the smell even though i've got air recirculation on all the time.

I'm almost 100% sure i've not got a new leak, my oil level hasn't budged and theres nothing dripping from under the car.

How long does it normall take for the smell to dissapear and could my stink mean something else is amiss?

Have you checked the plug wells aren't filling back up?

When mine were last done had oil smell for several days after..put it down to oily hands etc..gave engine a good clean with "spray on gunk" then rinsed off with hose with warm water..don,t use a pressure washer..mega electrics don,t like them..then let it run and dry off..no more smells......trust you gave the engine breathers a good clean when gaskets replaced ??

Spark plug wells are clear and breathers are spotless.  The oil was caked on pretty thick but i would have expected it to hav burnt off by now.

Looks like an afternoon with some gunk and a scrubbing brush is due :(

When they leak, the oil goes everywhere under there, especially if its not dealt with immediately..

It took me several hours of under the car, in the bonnet, everywhere else with lots of rags and a can of gunk (no jetwashing) to clear it all, but now finally it doesn't smell at all.  It won't just burn off on its own, I think some places just don't get hot enough to vaporise it - have a nice sunny day doing that and I suspect all will be fine...

I think you'll find it's just residue left over from when they were leaking. I had the same for weeks after I had mine done.

Yeah, I did the Rocker covers 2 weeks ago, and the spark plug wells were full of oil. The smell was still there all week, I got the car on a set of ramps, cleaned as much as I could with gunk, the smell as now gone.
