mine keeps running hot,hot ,hot so i have decided that before i spend any hard earned on it to try the above,as i read from previous posts that if the heater matrix is slightly blocked this can cause an slight overheating prob,so whats the best way to go about a rad/ heater matrix flush then chaps???
nice easy one or another total bas%$£d job???
-
Well, the heater matrix will not affect engine running temp......coz when its hot it has no water flow anyway...its more likely to be a blocked rad...
To flush it, pop the scuttle off, remove the two pipes from the matrix feed on the bulk head, attach a hose to one side and blast it through.....
-
is it really that simple mark!!!!!??????
-
A bit fiddly to get at....not to hard once the scuttle is off......the hardest bit is getting the quick release connectors off.....but only if you have never removed one before...
-
just looked i presume you mean the two hoses that run into the top of the rad as you look down on it? just unclip these and blast it????
-
Hang on....your talking rad now....or heater matrix...
-
the rad,i presume???
took the scuttle off,and theres 2 hoses ones about 30ml(?) on the right hand side and the others about 20ml(?) on the left, are these rad or matrix hoses???christ im confused......
-
Thats not the scuttle.....thats the rad cover....scuttle is at the rear of the engine.
But yes.....you remove the large feed pipes and blast a hose in one of them....its worth leaving the drain tap open to as sometimes sludge and gunge also drops out of this...
-
thats what i thought the scuttle at the back off the engine!!!!!
cheers mark sorry for my obvious stupidness............
will report back when done.........

Bleach works great for breaking down the sh1te... flush it out well and mind your eyes..... 50/50 coolant mix thereafter..

I used bleach in the tractor's rad off the car, and it moved a lot, but didn't unblock it :(
Not sure I would want bleach around my cooling system though...

Strong Gunk mix, a 20 mile run at normal temp, then flushed to within an inch of its life seemed to work for me for the past year or so......
But its getting warmer by the day...... :-/ :'(
-
i done a small flush out yesterday afternoon, there was a bit of brown silty type came out the two top hoses, but what worries me is whats down the bottom of the rad,is there another hose connected at the bottom that ican attach my garden hose to,to blast 'upwards' so to speak?? or do i just have to go in via the 2 top hoses and keep my thumb over one end, let it go,thumb back over let it go etc, etc???
or is it worth, bit of bleach(for example) 20 mile run then back home dissconnect the rad and take completely out of the car the car then flush???so i can tip it upside down???
is it an easy job to get it out, without too much hassle???
questions questions...
-
Take it out and flush it with it upside down.....and let gravity assist a bit...
-
Just another way that i have used to great effect in the past and one that removes all sorts of build up is to use central heating (fenox) cleaner. Make up a mix in a watering can and fill the radiator up, this can be done on the car but perhaps more easy off the car, then if possible leave to stand overnight and flush through the following day, you will be amazed at the s@#t it removes. This also work very well on heaters that dont blow very warm, again same proceedure just a bit more fiddly.
Hope this helps and good luck, Jez. :y

It does kill all known germs dead, you know !!!
Remember posting once that bleach to clean, replenish 50/50 mix and add an egg cup full of brake fluid, to protect the insides of the pipes and waterpump bearing... know what you mean though!
