Title: Car spluttering
Post by: Popoff on 29 April 2007, 16:09:39
Hi all,

I'm a newbie here and would appreciate your thought on a slight problem i'm getting on my 97 reflection 2.5v6.

recently it has started to splutter when doing 30ish and below although is sound at higher speeds. It is also ok if have around £30quids worth of petrol init but if the range falls to 70ish the sluttering occurs.

any idea what it could be as i know nowt about cars and don't wanna get fleced at a garage just yet.

When was the fuel filter last replaced.....

Any hissing from around the engine....

Its worth popping the fuel pump assembly out of the tank to check the fuel pickup pipe is ok...

Many Thanks for that, it makes sense. I doubt the last owner had it changed as he did nothing else to it.

Is this a relatively easy job or is it best to take to a garage and just get it changed? Any idea on what the average cost should be?

Fuel filter is about £10. Guides on replacing in Maintence Guides Section.  I would buy a pair of clips in case you break them...

Do you know when the cambelt and tensioners were changed (if at all)?  If not, or you are unsure, have them changed ASAP.
