Title: Parts, Part Nos and advice please
Post by: Elite Pete on 30 April 2007, 17:06:29
As from Tuesday next week I will be working in Cornwall for a month or two and I want to get the Omega in fine fettle and up to carrying me backwards and forward at weekends.

The jobs I want to do this week are
Rocker cover gaskets (not yet leaking but will do them while im there) which I have the part Nos from Marks How to :y.

O/S exhaust manifold gasket. Obviously I want a manifold gasket, is it worth getting new studs and bolts and if any of the studs are broken can they be drilled out with the heads still in place. I know the 4 cylinder manifold cracks but what are the chances of the V6 one being cracked when I get it off.

Cambelt, tensioners, water pump and Aux belt. Im going to have a crack at this myself :o so will be watching the DVD a couple of times over the next day or two. Is it possible I can borrow a locking kit of someone, I know its short notice.

Clean the breathers, again straight forward and feel ok about this.

Is there anything else I should do while im there ie thermostat.

The V6 studs dont snap....fortunately....even less so on the later engines (which you have).

Check the manifold over, I have seen one or two cracked, but only on explod cars....before re-fitting the manifold make sure the main mating surface is flat...for this I use a belt sander but, some rough emery or good wet and dry on a flat surface will do the same job.

When you undo the front pipe to manifold nuts, also remove the bolt that supports the front pipe on the gearbox bracket to and pull the front pipe off the manifold studs.....makes manifold removal much easier....do support the front pipe with something after....

To make removal of the stainless coolant pipe easier, take the heater bypass valve and associated pipes out....

Before re-fitting the main coolant pipe to the rear of the block clean the block mating surface well and use a little sealent when re-fitting.

Just check the valley area for signs of leaks.....
