Title: Constant Oil Problem (Possibly Oil Pump)
Post by: nixoro on 01 May 2007, 13:09:28
My car does not push out any oil fumes so its not burning oil as far as I know.

I had a look at my car from the underneath at the weekend and its coated in oil, I have changed the rocker cover gasket previously using the black sealant and its been torqued down to correct Nm settings. This could be old oil but every so often I have to add oil as it flashes oil lack but not all the time.

Could this be a problem with the oil pump housing and if so How can I prove its this without removing the Cambelt if possible.

Has anyone ever changed one on a 2.0 and if so are there any diagrams available for fitment.

The oil loss is not excessive to bring the engine oil light on just the oil lack on the MID.

Its a problem which I have been thinking about for a while but needs urgently sorting.

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

The best course of action would be to get some good degreaser and clean all the old oil off, then take it for a run and try and spot where the fresh oil is emerging.

Check under the cam belt cover just to make sure the cam belt is not contaminated with oil though.

I was going to mention about this I have checked behind the cover a while back to check the cambelt and so far so good its not got in there, the aux tensioner on the hand is coated with old oil but the belt looks/feels to be ok.

I shall see about getting as much of the oil off as possible and recheck behind the cover and then go from there.

nixoro I had my oil pump changed at Xmas and the engine had to be lifted as it was a sump off job.

I was told about a pressure valve seal that gos alot on these cars so i had that changed also while the pump was being changed.

I was told the pressure valve was really cheap like 7 or 8 quid if i remember right
