have half a day to myself so thought I would give the V6 a oil change...looked at the maintenence guide....
found the sump plug....
WHERE IS THE FILTER!!
looked fron the top...can see it any where, looked under from the front.. from the drivers side from the passenger side!
I think someone has nicked it!
any suggestion how i find it?

Passenger side, by bellhousing / flywheel.
Get to it on ramps or jack up pass front wheel.
'98 will probably be the paper insert type so expect the filter cap to be over-tightened.
-
Just tried putting it on ramps... sh*t myself... it so close to hitting the bumper! Tempted to get some axle stands...
will go out and get the oil and filter than give it another go!
thanks

If your ramps have rungs rather than a solid ramp surface then get hold of some 7"x2" joist off-cuts, about 18" long, tack a 3/4 x 1" bit across one end so it hooks over (say) the third rung and the car goes up a treat, no slipping of the ramps and no damage to the spoiler.
Be very careful if you try this at the back though....can result in high speed wooden projectiles flying around.

You may have the new type rather than the canister one shown in this drawing, but the location is still the same:

If you have the newer paper-element type, then this is what you are looking for:
