How/Where does the Emergency brake hook up? mine seems to be disconnected and/or non working and this happened after I had my brakes worked on which makes me think that it was disconnected any ideas?
-
Hi Peetzy
For a starter, look here.....its a guide on servicing the rear 'emergency' brake setup....
Servicing the rear brake setup (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152564750)
The cable setup starts at the base of the handbrake leverl (can be seen in the pic in the maintenance guide) and passes down the rear trailing arms to the back of the brake back plates where they attach to the brake levers which stick throuh the rear of the brake backing plates....

Thanks everyone. Ill check it out this weekend Hand brake huh? ha ha we call it that too as well as parking brake. As for abs im not sure

ABS - Anti Lock Braking System
Stops the wheels locking under hard breaking.....
I assume its not what you mean as its not an 'emergency brake'

Oh Anti Lock Brake gotcha no its not that that is working fine.

For my fellow Brits confused by the terminology... :D
Emergency brake is an Americanism for the hand brake. Sometimes they call it the E-brake too. I'm not sure if it's common practice in the US to park without using the hand brake (instead just leaving it in gear) hence the idea that it's only used in emergencies (although I wouldn't like to try and stop the car with the hand brake if the normal brakes failed!) Certainly when I hired a Mustang in the US I used the handbrake just like I always would, including at traffic lights although I think I was the only one judging by the seemingly perpetual glow of brake lights ;)
On a semi-related note, this kinda reminds me of that MTV Punk'd episode with Hilary Duff (she's a pop singer from Texas, and a rather hot one at that :D) where she was learning to drive but of course it was all a setup and the "instructor" was in on it. At the start she gets a telling off for not releasing the "emergency brake" before trying to drive off, and it only gets much worse from there! The instructor's phrases were things like "The car is not a toy, you're driving a bomb on wheels here" lol... rather humourus :D
Apologies, yet again I digress ::)

The hand brake/emergency is often not a hand operated brake on US cars, it's foot operated! Hand brakes takes take up cup holder space! ;)

Picture me trying to do a traditional British hill start with one of those - in San Francisco!
Lights green, put a few revs on, press release button.. whoaaa! and we're off! forwards too! that's good!

All the ones I've driven have had proper hand brakes. I was in San Francisco with the rented Mustang last year, hmm rush hour traffic queues on a 30% incline, mucho fun :o With hindsight I'm so glad that had a proper handbrake lol.

Easy!! 8-)
Proper gearbox in D .... left foot on brake ..... right foot over accelerater. Lift brake with left foot as you press the throttle with right foot!! :y :y

LOL... nah this one just had G for GAY mode ;) Although the guy at the hire place did give me a hat with a big D on it, he said it comes complimentary with all cars specially adapted for people who can only operate two pedals :D
I generally never left-foot brake except for novelty factor ::) as I don't have the same level of pressure control as I do with the right. I can heel-toe no problem (and I do it all the time) but the pedal box some cars are so woefully laid out that it's damn near impossible!
Oh and yes I do still remember how to *properly* do a hill start, handbrake included :P
