Title: Does the light go out ?
Post by: amba on 02 May 2007, 22:06:58
Suspect fault with crank shaft sensor as have had fault code checked and assistance from several kind members on forum...just one thing is concerning me .Assuming there is a fault with crank sensor would eml light stay on all the time? until the part/fault has been replaced/cured..if so why does the light not come on when I start the car..drive it ..or is it that the fault is not total and it only illuminates light every time voltage or what ever it does stops...sorry this might sound strange but always assumed if a warning light was to tell of a problem would be on permenant

With crank sensor, only lights up the EML when fault actually detected...   ...which normally causes car to die...

Yep. I had an intermittent fault with knock sensor 1 and the light was on and off all the time.

So the fact that mine does start and drive, albeit slightly erratic, indicates that partial failure of component or cable has occured with total failure probably due next,at which point light will be on permenant as car will probably not start

Sorry, crank sensors fail in different ways. But at the point where the ECU stores a 19 on a v6, the engine will cut.  Whether or not it will start again is in the land of the Gods.  If you have a 19, cure it!!
