Title: Interior door trigger thingie
Post by: theolodian on 07 May 2007, 10:33:48
What breaks on these?  Mine bends down a lot when I open the door, sometimes catches the trim and pops it off.  Worried that it will fail soon.  Can take door apart, but would like to know what I might need to get if anyone has had this before.  :question

Ummm.  The thingie you pull to open the door, from the inside.  Cable runs from it to the latch in the door jamb.

The top or bottom pivot may have broken/come loose, or, the plastic housing may have broken. You should be able to tell just by removing the cover.

Yeah, it feels like a top pivot isn't doing it's job.  I'll take a closer look in a bit.

If there is supposed to be a round plastic pin sticking up from the tigger into the top of the bracket then that has broken off.

Is there one on the lever on the other side?  If so, I guess you are right.

I had a similar problem with the outside handle - the hinge pin came out at one side such the the handle didn't pull square and the door didn't release.

Hopefully if the one on the passenger side is ok you should be able to figure out what has broken or come off.

Just been out and popped mine off Theo ( I really am too kind :D). Ita a metal pin and its looks possible that it could slip down and may need just pushing back up from the bottom.

If that's the case its a similar construction to the outside handle I mentioned, so hopefully the pin has just slipped down abd can be pushed back.   (Now you just need multijointed fingers to reach it ;))
