Title: Cruise Control
Post by: miggy on 07 May 2007, 20:23:26
Can it be done???  [smiley=huh.gif] I was looking to fit cruise control to my 2002 2.2 DTI, is it worth doing or would the cost be too much, I know I would need the steering colume stalk and other items but how easy is it, has anyone done this to their motor.

Generally on the Vauxhall DBW engines, it needs to be enabled in the ECU via Tech2.  Not positive about the 2.2dti, but no reason to suspect otherwise...   ...2.5TD is enabled by default.

Its basically the same set up as mine - DBW drive by wire.

You need an indicator stalk with cruise buttons, you can get these from ebay etc for £25-£30 but iirc they are around £32 new from Vx on trade club. Just undo the steering cover and it pops off fairly easily, replace and it's done.

If it's a manual you will also need a clutch switch, easily diy fitted, above the pedal - look at brake for a similar unit - cost £22 from Vx

And as mentioned it will need to be enabled by Tech 2 - £50 ish but if you ask one of the mechanics they may have a special out of hours deal available  :-X

So worst case scenario £32 + £22 + £50 = £104.  Anything less is a bargain - and definately worth doing!

I asked Megavaux for a stalk but they quoted £23 so I got mine from fleabay instead for £8.50 + £2 p+p... nice  ;)

Just need a clutch switch now.  Can't seem to find one on fleabay so I'll as megavaux breakers for a price and report back.

As for tech2... i think 'theboy' can do it....?

And as for all this flying by wire... 'i ain't gettin on no plane sukka!'

My CDX came with cruise, I use it sometimes when driving through motorway works where they have the warning signs for 'average speed check', but other than that I don't find it very useful and would probably not have bothered to install it if it wasn't there...

Incidentally, perhaps someone can confirm the story that these license-plate-recognition / average-speed cameras that hang above the lanes are lane-specific, i.e. if you switch lane before reaching the next camera you won't be clocked? just and academic interest of course.  ;)

Upon investigation it would seem that i already have a clutch switch...  :y

Well i can feel the brake switch but with the clutch i can just about feel it right at the top of the pedal, i'm sure it's a switch as it feels simular the switch on the brake pedal...?

Visually check it....  ...remove card bit, then look up. you will see brake switch, check similar for clutch...
