Title: When should the EML light go out

Hi there Folks

Just a quick query,  at what point should the EML light go out?  Mine has always gone out after the engine starts, but is always on when ignition is on and engine not running. I have had problems with in the past e.g. Crank sensor and Cam sensor which stored codes and have been sorted, I thought that this would go back to normal after so many clean starts, but EML light stays on with ignition on and dose not go out until I start the engine, then it goes out. Any thoughts,

Completely normal. :)

It should be on when ignition is on, and go off after engine fires up.
The crank sensor will cause it to come on with just ignition on as it gets an incorrect signal (crank is not rotating)

As an aside, its worth checking that the EML does not go out at exactly the same time as the oil pressure light.  Some unscrupulous souls hide an engine management fault by connecting the two bulbs together....at first glance it looks OK where you would have spotted a deliberately removed bulb.

nasty trick ... easy to fool people with that one.

goes out to check his car, disconnects EGR and 'bing'.   EML on...   8-)
