Title: £750 for a w reg elite?
Post by: bertiecbx550 on 18 September 2007, 11:02:56
i have seen a w reg elite for £750 at a local car lot....its got 149,000 on the clock its got a dent on the front wing, the general overall looks are dirty inside and out no service history with it and to top it all i think its an ex plod car its got the irs calibration on the clocks face...Now i think it might be worth the cash if i could get it for say £600 as its gonna need some tlc to get it back to showroom condition...what do you guys reckon? all advice would be appreciated thanx...  :y

Did plod really use Elites??

Previous owner could of just fitted some other dials with 'lower' mileage to the elite (especially if its mega high mileage) and not known of the differences between calibrated and non-calibrated dials, so making it easier to spot if you know what your looking at.

Do you have the registration??

Send an SMS to 83600 with the following

2PASS REGNO

It's like a little mini HPI check and will tell you number of owners, and if it was an insurance claim at any point, etc...

Might not be Police as in Traffic or anything but could be a division such as Diplomatic Protection, Ministry of Defence, Transport Police etc

I know DPS use 3.2 Elite's / 3.2 Specials to ferry MP's around in though they are currently being phased out.

Oh and if you put a reg plate for one that's still in use through the DVLA road tax web page it says there is no record of the vehicle.....  ::)

If no trace at DVLA then thats 'cos the regno is blocked or the vehicle is exempt from tax.....

Bertie - also look for sunroof (or lack), steel wheels, manual winders in rear windows and fabric seats.

Sometimes cars were registered as Elites but not always with the Elite fittings.  They were a 'delete option' on ordering the car to reduce the cost to the Police Force.

ps - its not white as well, by any chance??   :D

Some of them have a button on the dash to disable the courtesy lights as well.

i`ve had a good look at it now and it is ex plod..unmarked traffic car its not got all the knobs and whistles that normal elites have got on em but the previous owner has had a tow bar and tried to put some of the elite specs on it i.e. wood dash, door cards changed it still has velour seats and its got the 3.2 v6 engine in it which sounds ok to me no knocks or bad noises..oils clean i checked the level and the water header for mayo and the rest of the car seems okish to me but i would want my mate the mechanic to have good look at it first and give it a good once over......

Think of it more as an MV6 in GLS clothing. The subject of ex plod has been discussed before, here (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1165588477) is an old thread you might like to look at before making your mind up.

Are you 100% it's the 3.2? If the VIN is present on the nearside of the dash it can be proven.

Yep, two words...

"Road Wars"

May I suggest it could be $hagged out? Check all panel gaps for how well it's been crashed! I think Mr McBurger's car is a much better buy at a 1000 squid!  :y
