Title: Who turned out the lights!!!!!!
Post by: Damoblade82 on 11 May 2007, 17:38:41
Hello,

To add to my EGR valve problem, got home last night luckily just coming to a stop and everything went. It was like somebody had disconnected my battery. I heard a clicking sound from the passengers side of the engine. No brakes, No lights nothing. Released the bonnet catch and all the lights came back on but everything was reset, stereo date time etc.

Could anyone help, because this could be very dangerous. At the moment i'm not driving it. It's a 3.0L manual.

Cheers Damo

Sorry to state the obvious Damo, bit have you checked your battery connections and all the heavy duty stuff around them?

Hello

Yes, checked battery connections. They were on tight. Battery moved a little but not enough to be touching anything. It was suggested to me that it could be bad earth.

I just thought somebody may have experienced something similar.

Cheers Damo

Battery should NOT move at all.....its an MOT failure if it does and for good reason!

Hello,

It rocks slightly back and forth on the tray. Doesn't physically move about.

With the battery clamp correctly fitted, it should be solid as a rock......if its not and there is any movement it could

1) Move and short the +12V to 0V (body work etc0
2) continuously flex the cables and cause them to fail....

A loose battery is also an instant prohibition if stopped by Trafpol or VOSA and requires a subsequent full MOT to remove.

And car trailered home - not towed or suspended towed - but trailered.

Or attendance of Fire Service if terminals short out and battery explodes/catches fire and rubber ducks the car...... :'(

Also have a look at the BIG fusebox in the engine compartment. Switch your side lights on and have a wiggle about with the wires/connectors.
