Title: DIS pack removal questions

I,ve decided to go down the DIS pack route to try and solve my misfireing problem.
I've removed the wipers,scuttle, and moved the wiring harness to expose the plug leads ect. How exactly do I get to the flippin thing.I can't see it or even get my hands on it yet. Do you come from underneath. I tried following the maintenance guide up to removing the plug leads from the DIS. Help :-[

No idea, 'cause I don't actually have one  8-)

...but from following Mark DTM threads I understand this is somehow best accessed from under the car?

Nope, from the top, obviously scuttle off. Has to be done by feel. 4 bolts, location varies with year, as does the mounting of the DIS itself.

Fiddly job - it the past I have had to use a 'Tunnie'

I removed the plenum aswell, gives better access, and use a small mirror to see where the bolts are :y

No Tunnie in my toolbox :-/

I put one knee on the battery and get right on top of it so you can look down at it. A torch is required.

Mine was horizontal and had 4 torx bolts, E10 I think. Careful lowering of socket on extension needed so socket doesn't fall off and find its way under the DIS pack....impossible to retrieve until DIS pack out... but no socket now....

And my E10 socket was too fat to slip down beside the DIS pack and sit on the bolt. I had to use a 1/4" drive 8mm socket instead.

I didn't remove the plenum.

I've recently done mine, mostly done by feel, a torch will help so you can see where the bolts are. Scuttle came off but left the plenum chamber on. Expect to get a few scratches, its a fit fiddly down there. Its not that bad..

Have you also removed the wiper motor and drive assembly? I found that helped. You will laugh but I also found that by putting a black and decker workbench up to the bumper and some padding across the top of the engine it was easier (strange use of the word!) to get at laying on my front with lots of light shining down the back of the engine. Ideally you need a couple of extensions maybe a 5 inch and a ten inch from memory or a universal drive and an extension. The wiper motor is held on by several bolts , one of which is under the motor body and you need an extension for that.
