You know what I mean.
Is there any solution (gunk to go in screenwash?) or does it just mean time for new rubber?
Also on wipers - I have 2 estates - the rear wipers are cr@p on both - its like the spring doesn't hold them firmly enough onto the glass. Is there a replacable part in there or should I just trying lubing it up as best as possible?

Have noise from my front wipers but seems to be coming from the spindles. Only now and again though. i am hoping to take the wipers off from the spindles and spray good old WD40 down there and hope for the best. If not i will have to bite the bullet and grease up the spindles.
The noise from the wipers IMO i have found to be how they 'attack' the glass. That is if they are putting the rubber so it sweeps across the glass to remove the water. Looks as though yours are ready for a change.
i too have an estate and agree the rear wiper is crap, not as good as my works car (F**d F*c*s Estate)
i have changed the tension on the spring that holds the arm to the glass. This has helped a lot but you miss a section at the top most part of the glass in front of the rear centre brake light. If you do try this make sure you do not make it too tight as it will eventually grind grit and crap into the glass.

For the rear wiper, lube the hinge point realy well and flex the joint across its full travel several times, if you can, increase the spring tension to. I actualy think the estate rear wndow is one place that could realy benefit fom the blade style wipers....
As for the noisey wipers, it generally indicates two things
1) A worn out blade
2) A filthy screen and blade
Clean the screen and the blades well with a good screen cleaner i.e. Autoglym, you might need to repeat a few times to get it realy clean.

I wouldn't have said the screen (or rest of car) was filthy, although not exactly concours.. Still I'll give it a go to get it cleaner and see what happens.
Is the spring tension adjuster pretty obvious (I'm nowhere near the car right now to go and check)? I agree with the heavily curved rear screen it is always going to struggle to get the bit at the top.

Mark - what is a blade style wiper? Can they be fitted?

You been waxing the windscreen again Ian ;) :P
When I got my Omega both the wipers were passenger ones! They didn't squeek, more kind of bounced accross the windscreen :o
The set I then got from halfords didn't fit!! Useless, but I managed to get the old clips on the new wipers so all sorted, no more squeeking or bouncing :y

Well I haven't changed them in the 30k miles I've had the car so I won't be complaining.
I seem to recall reading on here that the Vx wipers on TC were a decent deal.

LOL, I tend to change mine about every 15k - 20k, when they start to get noisy. I think they just wear out in that time, possibly less - they wear if you use them, and the sun probably ruins them when its not...

Always used to have a problem with the rear wiper on my estate where it used to miss the top of the screen. Eventually I bought a genuine Omega estate rear wiper from VX and now it's perfect :y - the blade is definitely more curved than a standard blade from anywhere else.

I used the halfords screen cleaner and then used the halfords rain repellant after, I have no more issues. I do this about every 2 months, even though I clean the car weekly you will be amazed on how much crap still comes off the screen.
If you use the rain repelant DO NOT get it on your paint work

Bob - that's interesting. Will certainly give that a try if lubing the mechanism doesn't work.
Is the screen cleaner the same stuff you use for removing the film off the inside (I have some of that)?

I had the same experience, genuine vauxhall was better
and under £2 if i remember (on TC)

I change my wiper blades, as a matter of course, every 12 months, around Oct/Nov at the start of the season when you use them the most
I like to keep my vision clear.

Well I bought a genuine VX blade & a new rear arm & it still misses large areas of the glass!

I had a quick look last night but couldn't see how to adjust the tension on the rear wiper.
Can anyone enlighten me please?

I don't beleive that it's possible which is why I bought a new one (with no noticable effect!)

On mine, it clears most the screen on the 1st sweep, but misses some, which it clears as the wiper returns.
3rd party wipers missed much more which didnt clear at all.

Front wiper arms can get bent : If someone is trying to remove wiper arms and has bonnet open, lifts arm to fully up position but still cant get them loose so tries to close bonnet to attack arm from top....result one bent wiper arm. Ive seen it on 3 cars so far and it means that the blade doesnt meet the screen at right angles. One example was so bad that the spoiler had scored the screen.
