Title: DIS pack failure
Post by: Gaffers on 02 June 2007, 14:28:12
Doug just called me, apparently his DIS pack has failed (no.5 no spark - checked with different leads and plugs which are new)

How much do they go for at vx on TC?

Also I remember his DIS was mounted vertically whereas mine is horizontal and much easier to access - is this normal?

I think the vertical / horizontal mounting depends on the Age of the car...

i have just paid £88 for a non gen one, i was stuck and needed it quick.

saying that it is a Bosch part, my thinking is that it is as good as gen.

mine was the horizontal one, wasn't too bad to fit once i hed stripped out half the engine

Bosch are standard.

Think they are around £75 on t/c (book in shed, can't be bothered to go check!)

You can get them from Scrappys, we did for TB1... although the DIS was not the problem in the end. Just remember to pay for it as we forgot  ::)

They're cheaper on Ebay - around £70. They're nearer £100 on TC.

If it's only one plug that's strange. The DIS pack only has 3 coils so there's a wasted spark which means you usually lose two cylinders if a coil fails.

Bosch is standard  - although there are 3 types.....trade card is £100 or so exc VAT, best get it from ebay - theres a particularly good seller - vauxhallpartswarehouse - that do lots of vx stuff cheaper than trade ( i got my oil cooler, water pump off them)

Im in the process of removing dis pac - cant be arsed trying to get the fourth bolt in that holds it in place - so far havent found it too bad ( horizontal mounted)

i cant believe im reading this , today my mv6 started running rough and after elimination it turns out no5 isnt firing i changed the lead with no avail , i was confused as i know its wasted spark however from experience on fords i know the zetec wasted spark coils commonly drop no2 . so its a coil pack for me too im afraid .

Note also the differences in the location and shape of the low-voltage connector.
