Hi all, this thread will follow the progress of the conversion of a 3.0 V6 Elite to a 2.5 TD.
The donor car was aquired last friday (07 09 2007)
Here they are, on the drive.......

The strip down has begun on the TD and so far the exhaust, radiator and engine to gearbox bolts are out and the engine lift out is planned for Saturday. Fuel tank and lines are coming off tommorow (Monday 17TH)

The quest continues for a wiring loom from a 2.5 TD auto and a Torque converter.
Updates will appear as the project moves along.

You're a very brave man!
-
Good luck, :y
looking forward to the Updates on this Project :y
-
forgive my ignorance, but why?
-
Very very brave! , why didnt you just transfer all the good bits off your other one on to the td?
Or is it just a case of wanting to do a huge project and have the sense of achievement after?
Either way good luck ;)
-
or buying another 3.0 engine..
-
The reason this is happening is the 3.0 V6 elite is dying, the engine has a bottom end knock its leaking all sorts of stuff everywhere. originally it only cost me 200quid with a blown oil cooler and the donor car was only 250 quid. i have been looking for a decent 2.5 TD elite auto but have not come across anything thats any good. my elite has cream leather, electric everything, carin sat nav. and ive recently done the brake discs, shocks and tyres all round, it passed the MOT with no probs.
the combined cost so far is around 600 quid at the moment and i have to buy a wiring loom and a torque converter, so the idea is make something good out of 2 things that arent so good!!!
and i fancy a challenge, i dont have a time frame as i have a car to use (subject to the missus agreement!!) and i do a fair bit of milage for work and the V6 is a bit juicy but i LOVE the car.
some may not agree and thats fine but if it doesnt work i can always fix up the V6 and sell the tractor lump without to much of a loss.

Saintnick,
I applaud you for taking it on.
Keep us posted! ;)

if i was to transfer all the goodies from the elite to the TD i would say that would be very difficult, all ineed to transfer from the TD is the engine, loom, ECU and air intakes and other small bits. the other way round would be a mamoth task
and thanks, i will need all the luck i can get :y

Yes very brave! I'd have swapped the toys form the Elite to the TD, I think it'd have been the cleaner option! ;D ;D ;D
-
well, good luck..
id LPG the elite with a new 3.0 engine though.

All the best with this....I will be watching with intrest :y
-
thanks for all your comments, I will update as things progress. :y
-
why do you need to buy another torque converter?
-
I know someone with a spare TD loom from an early TD (TD looms changed when engine changed from a U25TD to X25DT)... ::)
Not sure what its worth (alas, cannot give away, as I have to recoup some of the money I spent on the replacement engine) :-/
-
You stole my idea! >:(
Only joking mate, good luck.
Before you start to go mad heavy on it, look in to the FBW and how it joins to the engine - this is what I was having trouble with.

:y
so sue me !!! ;D ;D ;D
As for FBW, I am gonna rip apart the interior and trace the wiring from the pedal thru to the engine bay and if need be, loom it seperatly, i think this is the only way. i will post updates. :y
-
use the td one then!

I seem to recall on another thread that the tractor is manual.

-

You are either very brave or very daft. Good luck with this mate. :y
