Title: Lost vacuum pipe..
Post by: duggs on 03 June 2007, 23:01:01
Hi All,

First post for me and I start with a mystery that hopefully you guys can clear up.
I have a 98 2.5 CD. I have 3 vacuum pipes runing literally from the front of the engine
to the rear, sitting in slots to the right of the engine. Two of them fly off round to the darkness
and are clearly attached...HOWEVER ! One of them, the shortest is sitting loose with no home visably
to go to. Length wise at best, it will only just fit round, tight against the Plenum and I've
sussed that its supposed to fit to a ECU controller DIRECTLY behind the plenum BUT
Need to investigate EXACTLY where.

From what I've said above, what is this pipe and what does it do or control. The one end that IS connected
goes from the far front left, low down, connecter..baring in mind that there are two other connection points that are directly in front of the engine. This is REALLY REALLY bugging me.

This should help: http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152565204

it sounds like the pipe to the rear multi-ram solenoid

Yup, sounds like rear multiram to me...

Okey dokey chaps..THAT being so..what does it do and is it important to be plugged back in and if how detrimental is it NOT to be plugged in..Thank you for you quick replies.

You'll not get such a boost at 4,000 rpm...

Thank you James...that sounds rather exciting...FORTUNATELY she's gonna be looked at this week so I'll get the chap to reconnect it.

Heh. the rear multiram (when working correctly) makes a bigggg difference IMHO at higher revs above 4k to pickup.....

Having said that, should be fine to drive without in the meantime, with no risk of damage etc..

Yep, agreed with the above. Goes from front multiram to rear multiram and IS needed. It will kick the raer multiram into action at 4k and does make a BIG difference.

At the back corner of the plenum theres a little snakes nest of pipes connected to the rear multi ram actuator.

One has a U on the end and connects to the vacuum pipe running to the front of the engine. Round this is another short rubber U actuator to actuator. There's also another pipe running underneath.

You can just about get the pipes on and off without taking anything else off the car.

Unfortunately your both wrong, the rear multiram default state is open and is closed by vaccum (and ECU control) until 4000rpm where it opens i.e. vac is required below 4K rpm and not above it.

So, you will get more low down torque and a flatter torque curve......this improves the driveability no end.

Plus, you currently have an air leak.....

So basically...which ever way "you" look at it...its best to get it re-attached ASAP..Thank you once again for you help and advice guys....She's standing all day today so I'll climb on the engine tonight and try to attached it myself....least I won't burn my arse and hands this time..???

To Jason H.....SO what you're saying, to a dimbo like me is, find the snakes nest of pipes, (I know where they are) and have a little grope along the lenght of each until I find U with a hole still open..THATS where the "lost vacuum" plugs into..is that correct please ??
