Title: Dis Pack / Leads  ....
Post by: Markie on 03 June 2007, 11:08:22
Quick question....

If ignition leads are wrong way round on dispack i presume the car wont start and will just crank....

Or will it start and sound like a dog....

I made the mistake of showing my father the dispack in situ last night and hes nudged top 3 leads that i had undone - out of the order i had them in  >:( and im now not 100% sure there in the correct order.

ive tried 2 combinations this morning and car wont start but willl crank...

anyone?

God Dam That man....hes alos knocked one of the connectors out so once ive put that back in it starts but i clearly ( with the combinations that ive used thus far) have them in right place....as it cuts out immediately

ive worked along the top 3 plugs on the dis, its mounted horizontally.

So from looking into the engine bay and looking at drivers side can anyone tell me the proper link from plug to dispack...

ie drivers side front plug lead goes into top left coil connector ( for example)

Bottome 3 coil have not yet been removed ( passenger side)

I got it Dave, Thanks  :)

Only issue is the amoount of skin hanging off the back of the engine  ;)

Particularly for Bob Dent, Big Rod and Laidback ( as i know you were questioned by Big Rod halfway up the M1  ;D)

Any doubts its a failed dis pack....

New one ordered - I had a hunch which one it would be( and was right) should have ordered it earlier so i could complete the job today  :-/

Just a note after seeing the pic of the Failed DIS pack. Mine went in identicle manner. Is this more likely to be through degradation through age or another seemingly common problem with the V6.
After replacing mine the slight missfire at tickover went, now 6 weeks later its back. Any ideas what this could be please?

the Heater Bypass Valve ( HBV) is a common failure point in omegas, its almost directly above the dispack. When the HBV fails it damages the dispack ( water leaks onto it from the HBV). Have you checked your spark plugs for damage? checked plug wells for oil and cleaned the throttle bodies, Idle control valve and breather system? Could be part of the problem...

Thanks for prompt reply.
The wells on the right hand bank have a little oil in them, woult this be enough t cause a missfire.
I did'nt clean breather system sur to no doubt not having sufficient tools. I just gave the plenim & throttle boddies a long blast with some carb cleaner. Before each of the last three oil changes flush additive has used.
Incidentally, car is using water, not in massive quantities no traces in oil, or oil in water system.
So looks like HBV is most likely cause as well as changing cam cover gasket.
Is it likely i have shot the new DIS pack as well?
