Title: electric sunroof sticking
Post by: phil her up on 11 June 2007, 17:40:27
My sunroof has been playing up for a while, tried greasing the sliders but not much improvement, had the motor off & slid it open & shut by hand, seems to slide easier when it's open a third to fully. Is there any adjustment on it? cause it is sticking a bit I have to hold the button in  to get it shut (frosted up mode) any suggestions please? mind you the way this summers going might not need to open it much :(

Try a reset as detailed in FAQ section, so the roof can learn the amount of friction it needs to overcome :)

have you cleaned all round the sunroof? where it's sealed?

i dont have a sunroof but my bro has one on his lexus and when parking under a tree in this heat we've had lately, the sap gets in everywhere!

I had similar trouble with mine when I first got it - wasn't the runners after all, it was the gearbox - all the grease inside had gone solid, probably through lack of use. The worst bit was the brass gear that engages with the band connected to the glass - it could barely be turned by hand! I stripped that down, lubricated with white lithium grease and it's been fine since.

When refitting, I found that due to the motor resynching its' position, the sunroof ended up not sealing right. The procedure I worked out in the end is this:

fit motor - hand wind sunroof shut
remove motor
connect cable to motor
power up ignition, open and close virtual roof so that motor resets to closed position
refit motor

... job's a good 'un  :y
