has anyone a step by step guide to doing a manifold gasket mot due in august hoping to get few bits and bats done before hand its the drivers side its blowing on dont mind having a go but dont fancy knacking it up so any advice would be helpfull cheers its a sort of ticking when foot on gas was told it was manifold to downpipe gasket but tried some exhaust repair putty around this first and it didnt make a difference and cant pin point exactly where its coming from anyone near to me who knows what they are doing and could help? thanks

Do thoroughly eliminate the downpipe gasket - that's easy to replace.
Do this with a cold engine. Get underneath, get you hands round the joint and get someone to start the car. The exhaust will get very hot very quick due the secondary air injection but you have perhaps 10 seconds to feel for an exhaust leak.
As for advice you'll need to tell us which side needs doing - the instructions will be different.

I can't work out if my head/manifold or manifold/downpipe gasket has gone on my 52 plate V6. I wonder what sort of effect a blown manifold/downpipe gasket can cause? would this sound as raspy as a head/manifold gasket failure?
I gave the cats a knock on a kerb a while back and it's been a little noisy since, I just hope it's damaged the cheaper and easier downpipe gasket, if any at all!
I did ask for a price for a Vx downpipe gasket and i think they quoted roughly £5 + vat each.

mine is a ticking noise nothing excessive just bit annoying cos engine sounds sweet only really in a rush to do it as mot coming up soon ,could live with it otherwise

If only I could read..... :-[
Driver's side gasket is do-able but a fair bit of work. The main headache is the big coolant pipe that's in the way.
