Since fitting my new (non-gen) HBV on the meega, and going for a motorway run, the temp is going over 100 when I give it some welly, and doesn't come down quickly. Shot up in the red at one point - resulting in me waiting on hard shoulder!
I let some pressure out of the cap, drove on, and the gauge went straight back down to 95. Then back up again, once I used kickdown a few times.
There is too much pressure getting in the coolant system.
It wasn't doing this before, certainly nowhere near to this extent. I've tried to remove any potential airlocks, and have run the engine with the header tank cap off and the heater on HI. No difference.
Guess I'll refit original HBV and see if that makes a change... may be an interesting lesson here re. non-GM HBV's!!

I think the HBV is a 'herrang Rouge'........it plays little part in the engine cooling in reality.
I suspect an airlock somewhere....did you run the engine with the header cap removed, the heaters on full whilst squeezing the pipes......

I agree with Mark.
Only way the HBV would cause issues is if there was a leak on it sucking in air.
I had more fun and games getting another air lock out last night after the latest flush so that is where I would look.

I'm going to give it a damn good flush, using Dave's recommended detergent - and start again, see what happens. Temp is pretty much OK until you rag it, or keep it constantly over [size=8]90mph[/size] ::)

Certainly can't hurt much, based on our experiences with Dave's car... results were impressive at getting all that gunk out!
Although, I think with the amount you've been flushing, there is more of a "foreign object" somewhere - rather than buildup of corrosion etc...

i fitted a non geniune hbv and it was showing the same problems as yours with a few more aswell, when stopped you could smell a strong hot coolant smell and after a run and with the engine stopped you could hear air being drawn in to the expansion tank (a bubbling noise) but i couldnt find any leaks under the car but it would lose coolant, untill it failed in a major way dumping the entire rad contents in about 30 secounds flat, i have now stuck a genuine vaux part on it and all the above problems have gone, did you get the hbv from autovaux, they supplyed me the faulty one but they did give me my money back very quickly so i wont let it mare my excerlent service i have received from them.

Dave/Mark - any particular brand of traffic film remover that is particularly successful? Gotta be worth a pop....
