Title: 2.0 DOHC lumpy running
Post by: ians on 23 June 2007, 14:31:40
My 2.0 has started running rough.

Symptons are
- does it all the time, hot or cold
- not pulling well.  Could be slightly better at high rpm but not convincing
- significant vibration at idle (7-800rpm), (and another resonance at 1500 most noticable when cold)
- no EML

Plugs are fairly new (<10k),  leads and dispack - who knows? probably original.
I removed plugs and the electrodes look good.
Airfilter fine and <10k
Fuel filter overdue  :-[ prob. 50k since last (Haynes says 40k replacement)

On investigation, plug wells are full of oil, so obviously need to replace the camcover seal again -previous one was Halfords before I was enlightened on here..
DIS pack looks bone dry. The car lives in a car port so I don't think water ingress is the issue.

I have cleaned out the plug wells and dried off the HT leads as best I can.  Problem remains.

Car is worth next to nothing ('94, 180k) so I don't really want to be throwing money at it at random.

I'm suspecting the HT leads are goosed, but I'd appreciate any suggestions.  I have a new fuel filter so prob most obvious to start with that.

Cheers,
Ian

Firstly, cure the gasket, esle it will damaged the leads.

Also, change the fuel filter more regular - I do mine annually.

Fix the gasket and replace the plug leads - the oil has probably broken the leads down.

Remember the 10 O-rings on the cam cover
