MAF is probably a red herring, as I have yet to see one fail (think I have a spare though).
TPS is possible, especially if 2nd hand as age/history is unkown.
I'll find out price of a new one later.

I have a known good TPS, yours for the postage.

TC light on ??
Any other warning lights on or strange behaviour?

Measure the battery voltage with engine revs above 2000rpm....

Just limped home and now parked on driveway awaiting bits??..have had TC light on nearly all day and in last few miles EML is on and off with "automatic gearbox" appearing on display..at junctions when try to accelerate feels like am tied to a tree and at 2000 rpms just about moves..ok when moving but revs erratic between1500/2500 at steady 30mph..am now going out to flash up fault codes again but am expecting 22 and 73 although do understand that 73 is probablynot the root cause..will keep you posted ..thanks again James for offer have sent you pm

Just done the paper clip test...started car and revs straight up to 1500 then hovered down to fluctuate between 650 and about 1000..have flashed up the following codes much as expected...22 and 73 so all things are pointing to TPS...is it just bad luck as original tps was replaced as had similar problems but was not a new or even known history one..it has lasted about 5k miles so does it seem ther is another issue or just 2 duff tps ?

Check for an airleak, eg in the bagpipes or egr etc...

Well I am £71=39 lighter in the pocket but the old girl is running as she should again....found vx dealer with the correct tps in stock so took a slightly erratic 55 mile drive to collect it in the pouring rain..then spent all of 5 minutes in full water proofs in their forecourt replacing it,much to the annoyance of the sales staff.....the drive home was so much better and no eml or stalling at junctions...so the problem would seem to have been buying a second hand unknown part off fleabay for a £10=00 to only last a couple of months albeit about 10k miles...expect I will forget about the price after a decent glass of vin rouge if I am lucky!!!
